Device Description

Digital Yacht has introduced a new range of Class B AIS transponders. Class B, a new standard, uses SOTDMA format transmissions. These offer 5W power (2.5x more powerful than a normal Class B), a guaranteed time window for transmission in busy areas and faster update rates depending on the vessel's speed. It is ideal for offshore sailors who require the best possible performance and secure satellite tracking applications for fast powerboats and smaller, non-mandated commercial vessels. It will continue to work with existing Class B and Class A systems.

Smaller vessels and boats can benefit enormously from a 5W SOTDMA Class B transponder when navigating. However, the regulations for installing an additional VHF antenna can be daunting.

This is exactly where the AIT5000 Nucleus comes in, our SOTDMA AIS transponder with splitter and WLAN.

Not only does it have a fully equipped Class B AIS transponder, it is also equipped with an antenna splitter. This means that the existing VHF antenna can also be used to send and receive AIS data at the same time.

NMEA 0183, NMEA 2000 and USB interfaces and WLAN access offer a variety of connections for PCs, Macs, tablets, iPads and smartphones, and literally make the Nucleus the center of your on-board navigation system.

The AIT5000 also functions as a multiplexer and transmits available NMEA data in addition to the AIS data, which is then transmitted wirelessly to mobile devices. The Nucleus offers maximum connectivity and integration. Now works with the popular Navionics Boating App for Apple iOS and Android to display GPS and AIS data on your Navionics charts.

Configuration

To simplify the use and configuration of our AIS transponders, our AIT5000 has an integrated web interface. The configuration of the transponder can be done via a PC, tablet or smartphone and most importantly, no software or app is therefore required.

You can configure the AIT5000 via its own web interface (no internet connection is required). Simply open your web browser (Google Chrome, Safari, Mozilla, etc.) and enter the IP address of the AIT5000 (which is always 192.168.1.1). You can set the vessel details (MMSI number, vessel name, etc.), WiFi network name and password, and even merge the AIS WiFi with an existing WiFi network on board. You can even stop the AIS transmission via the web interface.

Finally, the AIT5000 supports the TCP and UDP network protocols to ensure maximum compatibility with nautical apps.

Note on SOTDMA technology

Class B is a new generation of AIS functionality based on SOTDMA (self organized TMDA) messaging rather than the simpler CSTDMA (carrier sense TDMA). It guarantees that your AIS transmission will receive a time slot, even in areas with very high traffic density. It also specifies a 5W transmit power (compared to 2W for Class B) and a transmission rate that increases as the vessel speed increases. With normal Class B protocol, the transmission rate is set every 30 seconds as the vessel moves. It is ideal for offshore sailors, fast motorboats and smaller, non-mandated commercial vessels that require the best possible performance and future-proof satellite tracking applications.
