The new battery control system for boats BM100 from Digital Yacht enables precise measurement of DC voltage, current and capacity and thus reliable monitoring of the boat battery and the electrical system.

The heart of the system is the SmartShunt, which measures battery voltage and current. From these measurements, it intelligently calculates the battery's state of charge and the time remaining until discharge. It also records historical data such as the deepest discharge and average discharge current as well as the number of charge and discharge cycles. SmartShunt can also monitor the voltage of a second battery that is normally used to start the engine.

The system includes a NMEA 2000 interface to allow your chartplotter to display all important electrical parameters. MFDs from leading electronics manufacturers such as Navico, Garmin, Raymarine and Furuno enable the display of battery electrical data via their NMEA 2000 interface. Battery voltage and low battery capacity alarms and warnings can also be activated.

The BM100 also features a Bluetooth interface so your smartphone or tablet can display current, voltage, capacity, historical data, state of charge information and remaining time based on remaining battery capacity.

Since sailors prefer a clear and uncluttered instrument panel, integrating the electrical data into the main chartplotter is a popular option that saves space and costs. This product is the result of a collaboration between Victron Energy and Digital Yacht. The system uses Victron's proprietary VE.Direct data connectivity as a source of NMEA 2000 data. Victron solar charge controllers (MPPT) and battery monitors can also be connected to the NMEA 2000 network via the veKonvert interface.

On board, we are increasingly dependent on electrical energy from DC batteries for lighting, cooling, pumps, winches, etc. Therefore, it is important to have accurate information about the batteries and monitor the state of charge from various sources. The lifespan of batteries depends on many factors. It can be shortened by undercharging, overcharging, excessive deep discharging, excessive charging or discharging currents and high ambient temperatures.

Battery monitoring with the BM100 provides the user with important information so that corrective action can be taken if necessary. This extends the life of the battery. An optional battery temperature sensor is also available.

The BM100 can also be integrated with other Digital Yacht Wi-Fi and NMEA 2000 instruments to provide a hybrid NMEA 2000 and Wi-Fi display system.
