Advantages of polypropylene
Polypropylene is an elementary component of the functional yarn Polycolon, which is either spun as a mixed yarn from polypropylene and other textile fibers, or in pure form from polypropylene. Polycolon is used as a functional yarn in many different textiles. A fiber made from Polycolon has the lowest density compared to other fibers and is therefore the lightest commercially available fiber. Another important property is the high surface tension of the fabric. This physical property allows water and sweat to be passed on perfectly. In addition, Polycolon is hard-wearing and abrasion-resistant. The polypropylene contained in the fiber is resistant to almost all acids, alkalis and organic solvents. It is also kind to the skin and odorless. Therefore, polycolone is often used for sportswear and outdoor clothing. Home textiles and carpets are also woven from Polycolon. Polypropylene is used in the form of polycolon fibers for a thin layer that removes sweat or other fluids from the body. As a result, the other layers, which are made of wool or cotton, for example, do not soak up liquid. Such a layer, which transports sweat away, is known as the base layer and should be close to the skin so that the body fluid can be transported away better.
